Anxiety

By: Phil Boedeker

Roughly a year ago this month, I made a life decision to change my profession and my family started a new chapter. I did not have a job lined up and we were living with a relative on their second floor. Job application after job application went out with no response. My family, especially my kids, felt cooped up and, to be honest, my anxiety grew every day.

I felt like I was choking. Maybe you can relate. Are you feeling anxious? Are you worried about the New Year with all the unknowns and uncertain outcomes? The word anxious comes from the Latin word 'angere,' which means “to choke." Very appropriate.

How do we stop choking? In 1 Peter 5:7, we read the solution. We are to cast, literally throw, our anxiety on Him, which is Jesus Christ our Savior. This is not one time, either. This is every time we are feeling anxious – every time we are feeling choked. He can handle our burdens and our worry. We just need to breathe.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
