Providing Help, Hope, and Strength
Free Downloadable Guide to Love on Families
The first thing many of us get asked when they find out we work with those who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss is “how can I help my friend?” In the middle of their grief, it is easy to get paralyzed by the fear of saying the wrong things, upsetting those we care about, and, even worse, causing more hurt. The Anchored Soul team developed a guide that provides suggestions on how best to help a loved one who has experienced loss or has a baby in the NICU. This guide includes “what to say” as well as “what not to say” recommendations in addition to practical support ideas such as providing meals. It is yours to use and to share! It is one way we are equipping YOU to Provide Help, Hope, and Strength.
Lessons learned:
Supporting friends and family members who have experienced loss is not always easy and often uncomfortable, but their experience nonetheless deserves acknowledgement and a heart that sincerely cares. During my friends' lost I found myself wanting to ask questions, give encouraging words, show support but didn't because I thought maybe it was too sensitive too address. I mainly think this happened because I thought having the right words to say was what was needed; however, I have learned words aren't always needed or wanted. A friend or family member with an ear to hear, helping hand, or shoulder to cry on is just enough. There are many ways to support.
