Peace
By Elissa Boedeker
So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
Life is hard. We live in a broken world and the consequences are devastating. Christ warns us of this, “In this world you will have trouble.”(1) When trouble comes, when tough times occur, we question why. Why did this happen? Why did this happen to me?
Why?
In truth we may never know why. The why may remain beyond our comprehension. In Proverbs (2) we are advised to not rely on our understanding of things. Furthermore, God’s ways are beyond anything we can imagine according to Isaiah (3). God does not see things the way we see things. Praise Him for that! He does not restrict Himself to our puny limitations. He is a sovereign God; designer, creator, and ruler of all things. I have come to learn that I do not need to understand in order to trust, follow, and obey. And just like Jesus promised in John chapter 1, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” He brings His peace, even in a broken world. Do you have His peace today?
1 John 16:33 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
2 Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
3 Isaiah 55:9 As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than
your thoughts.
